C-PARTS AND THEIR PROPERTIES

In the operational practice of our customers, C-parts are defined differently and mostly also company-specifically. Typically, the following properties are assigned to C-parts:

  • Low material unit price
  • High variety of articles
  • Small order sizes
  • Many suppliers and manufacturers
  • High process costs in procurement

The term C-part comes from the context of business ABC analysis. Here, in this example, goods are divided into the classes A, B and C and ordered according to descending importance. A goods thus have a very important strategic significance in terms of production influence. B and C goods are less important. The strategic importance is sometimes determined by how important the respective component is for the function of the end product, how easily it can be replaced and how many suppliers there are for it.

Thus, the ABC analysis serves to identify optimisation potentials with the greatest effect on profitability. In this way, the measures identified and the resources required for them can be deployed in a targeted manner.

Depending on the importance rating, ABC parts are examined more or less intensively in the procurement and production process. Measures to optimise purchasing prices and processes are accordingly carried out frequently and comprehensively for A-items, whereas C-parts often receive less attention. Therefore, it is precisely here that there is often hidden potential for cost reductions.

C-parts are thus items that have a low value but are associated with high procurement costs. These include, for example, office consumables, protective workwear, cleaning items or tools.
